Ο Στρίντμπεργκ παίρνει το μύθο του Πελεκάνου και τον αντιστρέφει. Βάζει τον… πελεκάνο, την Ελίζ (Γωγώ Ατζολετάκη), να διοχετεύει όλη της την ενέργεια στο εγώ της, να παραμελεί και να θρέφει με αποφάγια τα ίδια της τα παιδιά. Να υπερτιμολογεί τα έξοδα του σπιτιού για λούσα και βεγγέρες, αλλά και να χρηματοδοτεί τους εραστές της.
Η λέξη «Μάνα» στο πρόσωπό της παίρνει άλλη διάσταση. Τα παιδιά, η Γκέρντα (Αθηνά Λάτση και ο Φρέντερικ (Νίκος Αμπουσαάρ) είναι κακοποιημένα, όχι σωματικά, δεν φτάνει μέχρι εκεί. Αλλά στερούνται τα βασικά, στερούνται τη μητρική αγάπη, το ζεστό σπίτι, τη ζωή την ίδια. Είναι μαριονέττες στα χέρια της, έτοιμα να «ακροβατήσουν» σε όποιο «αιχμηρό» σημείο τους ζητηθεί. Όταν ο πατέρας (Χρήστος Φωτίδης) πεθαίνει, η Ελίζ έχει ήδη βάλει σε εφαρμογή ένα ακόμα φρικτό σχέδιο. Παντρεύει τον εραστή της Άξελ (Λεωνίδας Αργυρόπουλος) με την κόρη της, τάζοντάς του χρήματα που… δεν έχει. Τον θέλει κοντά της, τον θέλει δίπλα της, ευαρέσκεται να πιστεύει τον εαυτό ως μήλο της έριδος. Ως η πιο πολυπόθητη γυναίκα του πλανήτη. Δεν σκέφτεται ούτε μια φορά ότι κάνει κακό στη Γκέρντα, ότι καταδικάζει την ευτυχία της κόρης της.
Το φάντασμα του πατέρα τη γυροφέρνει, κάνει μια προσπάθεια να τη συνετίσει. Εκείνη παραμένει απτόητη στις μηχανορραφίες της και δεν βλέπει την αγανακτισμένη εξέγερση που πρόκειται να συμβεί στο σπίτι της. Το αποτέλεσμα; Τραγικό αλλά δεν έχω σκοπό να σας αποκαλύψω περισσότερα. Όλα όσα εξελίσσονται στο Μικρό Broadway πρέπει να τα βιώσετε, να γίνετε ένα με τα θύματα αυτής της γυναίκας. Δεν ξέρω αν κάπου στη διαδρομή τη συμπονέσετε ή αν θα τη μισήσετε έτι περισσότερον. Αυτό θα το διαπίστωσε μόνοι σας. Θα τριφτείτε στο παγωμένο σπίτι μαζί με τους ήρωες, θα περιμένετε τη λύτρωση που θα φτάσει με τον δικό της τρόπο.
«Ο Πελεκάνος» είναι μια εξαιρετικά ενδιαφέρουσα παράσταση. Ακροβατεί πάνω στις ευαισθησίες μας, την ύπαρξή αυτή καθαυτή.
Ο Λεωνίδας Αργυρόπουλος μας θάμπωσε με την υπέροχη ερμηνεία του στον ρόλο του Άξελ. Ο Χρήστος Φωτίδης υποδυόταν με μεγαλείο το φάντασμα του νεκρού πατέρα. Ο Νίκος Αμπουσαάρ, ο Φρέντερικ της παράστασης, ήταν υπέροχος στον ρόλο. Πέρασε με ρομαντισμό τη θλίψη και την αγανάκτηση του ήρωά του, δίνοντας το έναυσμα σε εμάς να «κλειδώσουμε» καλύτερα σε αυτό που παρακολουθούσαμε. Η Αθηνά Λάτση πέρασε στην ηρωίδα της Γκέρντα όλη της την ευαισθησία. Έκανε την Γκέρντα πιο οικεία σε εμάς. Πέρασε μέσα από τη γήινη υπόσταση της ηρωίδας όλες τις πτυχές της γυναίκας.
Εκθαμβωτική στο ρόλο της μητέρας η Γωγώ Ατζολετάκη. Δεσποτική, απρόσμενη, καταλυτική! Πέρασε έναν ψυχισμό – γρίφο για την ηρωίδα της και εμείς μπήκαμε στη διαδικασία να τον λύσουμε.
Τα σκηνικά της παράστασης ήταν λειτουργικά, αφήνοντας τον αέρα των συναισθημάτων να ακροβατούν στη σκηνή. Τα ρούχα καίρια δομημένα ώστε να αντανακλούν τον χαρακτήρα των ηρώων.
